CARPETGRASS Axonopus
compressus
Carpetgrass is a very popular pasture grass for coastal lower South areas
of US. It is not suitable for hay production, but is a long lived
perennial and provides adequate grazing for about 9 months of the year.
Carpetgrass can withstand close grazing and is fairly easy to establish.
It is also a good at overpowering and choking out weeds with its rapid
spreading ability. Carpet forms a good thick "carpet" and is used
for lawns, aviation fields and on golf courses in the South.

low nutritive quality - Not generally recommended.

There are other grasses more productive hay wise, but it is
useful because it thrives on some types of land other grasses have
problems with. Can grow on almost all soil types, but does best on
low, moist and cold sandy soil types. Can be planted with
Dallisgrass, Bahia, Centipede, St. Augustine and Ryegrass... along with
Clovers and Lespedeza. Very similar in leaf structure to St. Augustine.

LANTING RATES:
Lawns: 5 lbs. per / 1000 sq. ft.
Pastures: 10-15 lbs. / acre.
Plant in spring (March - May)or fall (September / November)
for best results.
Best planted on prepared soils. Plant 1/8 to 1/4 inch deep.
