Brown Top Millet
| BROWN TOP MILLET is a
warm season annual grass that originated from South East
Asia and is used in the southern United States.
It is used
for forage, hay, pastures and interseeded with grasses in
erosion control along highways and reclamation sights.

Brown top millet
is usually planted early spring and
grows rapidly. When used in seed mixtures for grassing it
germinates quickly comes in earlier and provides stabilization of
the soil while the grass germinates and begins to take hold. After
the season is over the millet dies out and the permanent grass is
in place. It is used in game plots for amount and quality of seeds
produced.
Seeding: Planted at 30-40 lbs./A or 2lb. /1000sq and can be
broadcast or drilled but must be packed into the soil ˝ inches.
It is usually from May- August if weather permits.
Adaptations: Well draining soils in warm season areas with
slight acidity and can be grown in soils of low fertility.
Preparation: Well prepared seedbed .
