This clover is a cool season Perennial Legume. It
is used for fall and spring pasture in combination with grasses.
ADAPTATION:
Well drained soils of the southeastern USA that have
good water holding capacity.
BENEFITS:
Improves protein an energy levels of grass
pasture, can provide higher total forage yields than grass
alone. Reduces nitrogen fertilizer requirements.
Increase animal performance up to .5 lb. gain per day over grass
alone.
NUTRITIONAL:
Crude Protein - 25%
Total Digestible Nutrients - 72%
PLANTING INFO:
Rate: 3-5 lbs. per acre.
Dates: September and October
Method: Plant in a well prepared seed bed 1/4" deep or
sod seed or broadcast into closely grazed or mowed pasture.
Use a low nitrogen fertilizer. Inoculate seeds prior to
planting. Lime soil to 6.0 pH or
higher if needed.
GRAZING:
Responds well to heavy grazing after establishment
in mixed strains of fescue, bermuda or bahia grasses.
Tolerates close grazing. Do not undergraze in mixed stands
with grass as grass competition will reduce clover stand.
FOR SUMMER FORAGE:
Use Ranchero Frio Bermudagrass, Sorghum sudangrass, Alfalfa.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Clover is very high quality feed and under some
conditions can cause bloat. Provide bloat prevention blocks
for foraging animals.
